Janet Hamill is the author of five books of poetry.  Body of Water (Bowery Books, 2008) was nominated for the Poetry Society of America’s William Carlos Williams Prize.  Her sixth, and most recent book, Tales from the Eternal CafĂ© (Three Rooms Press, 2014) is Janet’s first full-length collection of short fiction.  It was just named one of the best books of 2014 by Publisher Weekly.

In addition to writing, Janet is a strong proponent of the oral tradition and has released two CD’s of spoken word and music, Flying Nowhere (Yes No Maybe Records) and Genie of the Alphabet (Not Records), in collaboration with Lost Ceilings, previously known as Moving Star.  Some of the original members of Moving Star –Bob Torsello (bass) & Greg Feller (percussion), have reformed h along with guitarist Mark Mcnutt to create Lost Ceilings.  (All of the band members are active in additional musical collaborations, including The Feelies, Shrubs, Armedalite Rifles, Mighty Girl, The Ellisa Jones Band and the Slavbovian Circus of Dreams.)

Janet Hamill and Lost Ceilings’ collaboration creates a marvelous blend of poetry and ambient rock n’roll.  Together, they have performed with literary and musical luminaries, including Bob Holman, Lenny Kaye, Patti Smith, David Amram and Judith Tullock.

Presented in Kurt Seligmann's Studio, on the second level of the converted (yellow) barn.
